Gandhi Jayanthi is on October 2 2011.
A “holiday” for a lot of Indians. A day to remember the Mahatma. A day for speeches and more speeches.
I think an important way to honor someone is to abide by their
direction and ideology.
Gandhiji stood for simplicity & unity. Someone who could confront the mighty British Empire and help us achieve Independence as ONE people. More than just leading us he strived with “us” to achieve this goal.
The British had succeeded in ruling us because they were able to use our disunity against us and this is the major obstacle Gandhji helped us in minimizing.
It was this unity, “One People” that shook the British Empire. It is this “One People” that should help US all, you & me to achieve our common good. Be it fighting corruption like Anna Hazare is striving for or to focus on development rather than being divided based on regionalism or castism.
Let is fight forces & ideas which try to divide us for narrow selfish gains and work as ONE People.
Vande Mataram
Gandhiji’s famous saying–
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
It is for all of us irrespective of our castes, creeds, regions or even nationalities to put our selfish interests aside and work towards the common good of all. A more powerful, vibrant, developing India and even the whole world.
Loka Samasta sukhino bhavantu.
Let our Vasudeva Kutumbakam
be happy.
