Hyderabad: There
was no surprise on Monday in the outcome of the Telangana MLC polls. As
expected, the ruling TRS bagged five seats and the remaining seat went
to the lone Congress nominee.
However, there was an element of
surprise in the expected defeat of the BJP-supported TDP nominee Vem
Narender Reddy. Reports confirmed that all five BJP MLAs and one TD MLA
preferred the NOTA (None Of The Above) option for their second
preference, making their ballot invalid.
It was another victory
for the ruling TRS as its five nominees were elected just a few hours
before the commencement of the Telangana state formation celebrations
that started from Monday midnight.
Ministers Kadiam Srihari,
Tummala Nageswara Rao, former deputy chairman in the Council Neti
Vidyasagar, former MLCs K. Yadava Reddy and Bodakuti Venkateswarlu won
the elections along with Congress candidate Akula Lalitha in the very
first round of counting of votes.
Incidentally Ms Lalitha will be
the only woman representative in the Telangana Council. The Telangana
Telugu Desam suffered a humiliating defeat.
