Mr. Abdul Khayum Khan,best known as A.K.Khan is an IPS officer of the 1981 batch. He is the Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. Taking charge of one of the largest corporations in the world, Mr. Khan said “from 2011-12 APSRTC has run into the loss of Rs 450 crore, reversing that trend will be my first priority. I will see that corporation give maximum and valuable service to the commuters.”
He then added, “APSRTC is one of the largest corporations in the world with 1, 30,000 people employed in this corporation and 23000 buses being run across the state and in the neighboring states. Nearly 1.3 crore commuters travel through APSRTC in a single day.”
AK Khan remained commissioner of police of Hyderabad for 2 years and 4 months. His term as commissioner of police was controversial with right wing Hindu groups in the city alleging him of targeting their groups and declared him an agent of MIM. On the other side Muslims and Muslim organizations especially in the old city saw him as man with an iron fist, who became tough in bringing law and order in the down town. And for the human rights groups he was a repressor who made curfew and sec 144 a prime feature of the city.
He is very passionate about cricket and other sports like tennis and he keeps himself very fit.
