Smt.Pratibha Patil, President of India presents ‘Rashtriya Sevaratna Samman’ to
Smt.Alka Bangur Hyderabad|India|March '2009: Smt. Alka Bangur, President of the
All India Marwari Mahila Samiti received ‘Rashtriya Sevaratna Samman’ by Her Excellency
Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi
in recognition for her dedication & service towards Humanity. She is also Director
of The Andhra Pradesh Mills Limited (APPML).
Some of her contribution towards the
community includes helping down trodden, spread education including technical education
to female students, extending relief operations to the affected during natural calamities
and helping the underserved section of the So ciety specially women in various ways.
Under her guidance, the All India Marwari Mahila Samity has provided computer training
to 5500 girl students till date in collaboration with one of the leading computer
training institutes in Kolkata.
They also provide educational help to girl students
and have adopted and educated many needy girl students. The Samity has sunk more
than 60 tube-wells and constructed Pyayu in Rajasthan which has a chronicle famine
problem to provide water to villagers and cattle who have to brunt of draught and
famine. It has also provided fodder to the cattle and thus helped the farmers. They
have also adopted villages in isolated regions and have provided free drinking and
electricity facilities.
After her contributory services to the remote areas in Rajasthan,
one village is also named after her name as ‘Alkapuri’. Apart from being a committed
social worker, she is an inspiration for the young women of our country for being
able to perform with élan her role as housewife, mother, career woman and now grandma.
She is M.A in Hindi and English and M.B.A from International Institute of Management.
She is also the Director of The Andhra Pradesh Mills Limited, Maha raj a Shree Umaid
Mills, The Peria Karamalai Tea & Produce Company Ltd. She is Senior Vice President
of the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce, the oldest chamber of the country. She is the
member of FICCI Ladies Organization (Ladies Wing of FICCI). She is the
