NRI Doctor from Hyderabad elected President of the largest county medical society
in USA Dr.Guru N. Reddy is the first physician of Indian origin to receive the highest
honor of the society representing eleven thousand doctors Hyderabad|India|March'2010:
Dr. Gurunath Reddy, graduate of Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad India is elected
as President of the Harris County Medical Society, the largest county medical society
in the United States of America, representing eleven thousand doctors. He will serve
as President-Elect for the year of 2010 and installed as the 110th president in
January 2011. He is the first physician of Indian origin to receive the highest
honor of the society, in Texas .
Dr. Reddy also had the distinction of serving as
President of the Houston Academy of Medicine for the year 2008-2009 whose representation
also included Physicians from “the world’s largest medical center”, - Texas Medical
Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Reddy as president will serve as the leading advocate
for member physicians, patients and community, in promoting the highest standards
of ethical medical practice, access to quality medical care, medical education,
research and community health.
He served as chair of Board of Medical Legislation
and led the “Physician Tort Reform “ for the society in 2003 and Texas is one of
the two states in the United States that transformed the practice of medicine thru
its medical liability reform. Several other states including the United States Congress
is working to adopt the “Texas Medical Liability Reform Act “ currently. Dr. Reddy,
upon migration to the United States completed his superspecialization in Gastroenterology,
Liver Disease and nutrition from the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine in the
Texas Medical Center .
Subsequently he founded one of the largest private Gastroenterology
groups in Houston, Digestive & Liver Disease Consultants. For his professional contributions
and achievements in the field of Gastroenterology, Dr. Reddy is regarded as an icon
in his specialty. He is recognized as an excellent Clinician, superb Endoscopist,
a true Leader in his field and is the recipient of several accolades. He has been
voted into “Houston’s Top Docs” (recognized in Top Docs H Texas Magazine) for four
consecutive years 2006-2010.
He is also recognized as one of “America’s Top Physicians”
by the Consumers Research Council of America 2006 edition of America ’s Top Physicians.
Dr. Reddy with his interventional endoscopy skills has pioneered over the years
in introducing several new Endoscopic procedures in the field of for the first time
in the North Houston Community. He also heads a very large liver practice, clinical
liver disease research and works closely with team of reputed liver transplant surgeons
at the Texas Medical Center . Dr. Reddy serves on the clinical teaching faculty
at the Baylor College of Medicine.
Recognized by his peers as an outstanding Physician,
leader and clinician, at a young age he served as Chief of Staff of several hospitals,
including, Houston Northwest Medical Center , Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital
, and Icon Hospital . Subsequently in the year 2002 he was elected to serve as Chair
of the Council of Hospital Chiefs of Staff, representing over fifty hospitals. He
is the first Physician of Indian origin to receive this honor. Dr. Reddy served
as chair of International Medical graduate Section of the Texas Medical Association
from 1995 to 2000. He served on the Boards of Texas Gulf Coast Gastroenterology
and Advisory Board of the American Liver Foundation (Southeast Chapter 2008 to 2009).
He is currently a “Delegate” to the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and serves on
the Board of Trustees for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center (“largest blood center”)
and MedServ.
Dr. Reddy holds his alma mater Osmania Medical College in very high
standard. Dr. Reddy received several gold medals and graduated with distinction
and was voted as the “best outgoing student” from the college. He has conducted
several CME (Continuing Medical Education) programs in India and has addressed the
Indian Congress of Gastroenterology. He is involved with several healthcare initiatives.
Noteworthy among them is being Chairman of Continental Hospitals Ltd. This 550 bedded
multi specialty integrated healthcare facility is being developed in the IT and
Financial district of Hyderabad, Nanakaramguda incorporating the best of World’s
standards in design, space, safety and healthcare delivery.
He strongly believes
of a “new dawn” for healthcare in India . He is extraordinarily passionate about
basic health care for all of India ’s citizens and regards preventive care as the
cornerstone of a nation’s health. He advocates that India should emulate some of
the Western Health Care practices and in conjunction develop its own brand of delivery
that fits its people. Dr. Reddy is Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine,
American Board of Subspecialty (Gastroenterology), Fellow of the American College
of Physicians, Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, and Fellow of
the International College of Physicians. He currently serves as Chairman of the
Board at Memorial Hermann Endoscopy and Surgery Center and is the Medical Director.
