Has been elected President of The Indian Newspaper Society for the year 2009-10.
Hyderabad/India/Sept'2009: Mr. T. Venkattram Reddy (Chairman,Deccan Chronicle) has
been elected President of The Indian Newspaper Society for the year 2009-10 at its
70th Annual General Meeting.He succeeds Mr. Hormusji N. Cama of Bombay Samachar
Weekly.
Mr. Kundan R Vyas (Vyapar, Mumbai) is the Deputy President, Mr. Ashish Bagga (India
Today) Vice President and Mr. Rakesh Sharma (Hindustan Times, Patna) is the Honorary
Treasurer of the Society for the year 2009-10.
Mr. V. Shankaran is the Officiating Secretary General of the Society.
The 50 year old Chairman of Deccan Chronicle Holding Limited Mr T Venkattram Reddy
spearheaded Deccan Chronicle when he was all of 21.The last 20 years has seen a
remarkable turnaround for DC -- from a modest regional paper to a paper of National
repute. Today he runs a group of publications under the DCHL platform: Deccan Chronicle
– the largest English newspaper by circulation in South India is published from
7 centres in AP, Chennai and Bengaluru, The Asian Age -- which has editions in New
Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkota and London, Financial Chronicle -- the business daily which
is published from New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore, Andhra Bhoomi
-- a Telugu newspaper, published from Hyderabad and six centres in Andhra Pradesh,Andhra
Bhoomi Sachitra Vara Patrika -- a weekly general interest magazine that serialises
stories from eminent writers, and Andhra Bhoomi Sachitra Masa Patrika -- a monthly
Telugu magazine which carries novels and novellas by well-known writers, Andhra
Bhoomi Panchangam -- a widely followed annual almanac for Andhra Pradesh.
In keeping with this interest in the printed word is his foray into Odyssey -- a
leading bookstore and lifestyle chain that has 46 stories in 14 cities. Odyssey
Publications and Deccan Publications have published books that are available in
book stores across India.
Seiger Solutions, DCHL’s alternate media platform, has launched Papyrus Clubs where
software experts from Netlinks India, co-ordinate with over 1,200 schools to help
nearly 1.5 million student community bring out their own newspapers online, with
children playing roles of editors and reporters. Seiger also offer a job portal
BigBreaks.com, a matchmaking portal WeddingWow.com and an ecommerce portal DCdealoftheday.
A fairly nascent addition has been the ownership of Deccan Chargers,the Indian Premier
League cricket team which won the IPL trophy for the 2009 season. Under the Deccan
Chargers banner is run year-round sports activities in schools and colleges to promote
sports and find talent.
Ten years back, Deccan Chronicle was positioned at an undistinguished No. 10 in
the roster of top 10 most-read English newspapers in the country. Today, we are
front runners down south and in the top league nationally.
