For a commanding view of the city against the backdrop of a changing skyline, there is no better place than the Naubat Pahad. It takes its name from the Naubat (drum) beaten vigorously before the royal Farmans (orders) were announced from the hilltop, during the Qutb Shahi and Mughal days. The granite hill is about 300 feet higher than the surrounding area affording a bird’s—eye—view of Hyderabad.
On the southern side is the saucer—shaped Lal Bahadur Stadium,an equally popular name being Fateh Maidan (the field of victory) where Aurangzeb pitched his first camp on his victorious campaign against Golconda. From 1853 onwards Hyderabad’s rulers reviewed military parades or played polo here. Now, it is the venue of cricket matches and political rallies.
