Nakenam Khan hailed from Persia and his original name was Raza Quli. During the reign of Abdullah Qutb Shah he was posted in the Karnatak province. I-Ic was given the title Raza Khan and later on Nakenam Khan in recognition of the loyal service that he rendered in the province after the rebellion of Muhammad Sayeed. Nakenam Khan was a great scholar, poet and administrator. According to the ‘Vestiges of old Madras’ Vol 1, Page 213, Nakenam Khan commanded a strong army of 40,000 troops and was one of the most accomplished Generals and Prime Ministers of Abdullah Qutb Shah.
Nakenam Khan died on 12th May 1672 nearly a month after the death of king Abdullah. He was given a distinguished funeral and was buried in the Royal Cemetery in Golconda. A village was also assigned for the upkeep of his mausoleum.
