The tomb of the first king of Hyderabad is a little to the north-west of Muhammad Quli’s tomb, built by the latter during his own lifetime. In contrast to the massive structures of his successors it stands apart by its symmetry and simplicity of design.
The tomb is 9.5 metres square on a platform of 30.5 sq. metres. The interior is octagonal and the exterior quadrangular with walls rising 6 metres high and the dome soaring up another six metres. The roof’s corners are pleasantly ornamented by four bouquets, reminiscent of the Bahmani style. Sultan Quli died on 2nd September, 1543
