Early Life
Went on for indefinite hunger strike from 16th to 21st July 2003 for closure of
construction sluice of Rajoli Banda Diversion scheme. This has craved specially
in the memory of Farmers and won the hearts of many people Even though, being a
lady I brought back safely to all farmers from the attack made by Rayalaseema TDP
leaders and farmers, for which many IAS & IPS officers were witnessed.
This event will never be forgotten - 4th July 2003. After this attack made by rayalaseema
people, we went for raasta roko on highway with hundreds of farmers for 7hrs continiously.
Headed a group of 2000 people from Galdwal to Hyderabad For Electricity Agitations
on 20th August 2000.
Headed several agitations in favor of Farmers like; 9 hour power supply, hike on
electricity charges and over billing.
at Hyderaad, Mahaboobnagar, Gadwal and all mandal head quarters which has yielded
good results. Successfully organized Panchayat Raj Training Camp at Gadwal from
18th to 19th Aug 2002. This camp got appreciation at all levels in Party as this
was a kind of Camp held for first time. After this program this kind of Camps held
in all Districts
Political Career
Smt. Dharmavarapu Kottam Aruna (D.K. Aruna) has distinct history in the politics
of Andhra Pradesh. She has represented Samajwadi Party (SP) in Andhra Pradesh and
elected on Samajwadi Party ticket to AP Assembly from Gadwal constituency (No.197).
She elected as MLA from Gadwal Assembly of Mahaboobnagar district for the first
time in 1999. In 2004 she joined in the Congress Party and elected from the same
constituency.
She is the cabiner member in the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy council of ministers and
K. Rosaiah ministry and held portfolio of Small Scale industries, Sugar, Khadi and
Village industries. She has been shifted to Information and Public Relations (I
and PR) portfolio in the newly formed cabinet of N. Kiran Kumar Reddy ministry.
She stands apart from other women ministers with her activeness and service orientation.
Headed a group of 500 farmers (60 women) in PADAYATRA covering 212 km from Gadwal
to Hyderabad from 9th to 18th February 2003. This Padayatra was organized to bring
the pending projects in front of the government. (Projects that Chief Minister had
promised in last election) This is also a program of its own and also this program
brought an attention of all the leaders in State as 1st time in the history of the
state, one lady has headed such program.
History
D.K. Aruna came from the politically strong family and she is the sister in law
of D.K. Samarasimha Reddy, who represented four times to the Assembly from Gadwal
constituency and also a former minister. D.K. Aruna's daughter has been married
to the son of Anam Vivekananda Reddy, brother of Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Finance
minister in Kiran Kumar Reddy's cabinet. Following is the brief profile of D.K.
