Minister for Labour, Employment, Training & Factories, Industrial Training Institutes
Profile
Danam Nagender is a strong leader of the Congress Party in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
He was elected from Asif Nagar Assembly Constituency in 1994, 1999 and 2004 elections.
He is a close follower of the late Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. After
delimitation of the constituencies, Nagender contested and won from Khairatebad
Assembly Constituency in 2009 elections. Danam Nagender was inducted into the cabinet
for the first time by YSR in 2009 and held portfolio of Health and Medical Services
and continued in the same portfolio in the cabinet of K. Rosaiah.
Danam Nagender
showed the ‘real’ politics after the death of YSR. Once a staunch and die hard follower
of YSR, suddenly turned negative on his son Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in pursuit of
ministry in the wake of formation of new cabinet by N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in December,
2010. He protested in front of Y.S. Jagan’s media house, Sakshi, against the telecast
of a programme on Sonai Gandhi and the Congress party.
All these efforts were assured
him a berth in N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet with Labour portfolio. The most funniest
part of the Danam Nagender’s political life could be his flip flops during 2004
Assembly elections. He left the Congress Party sensing bleak chances of getting
a seat due to rift with PCC President D. Srinivas and joined in TDP.
After winning
from Asifnagar on the TDP ticket, he resigned to the MLA seat and left TDP in an
effort to get a berth in YSR cabinet through re-election as an MLA on the Congress
ticket. He joined the Congress Party and contested in the bye elections but received
a fitting lesson from the voters.
He was defeated by the voters for his poli’tricks’
and left with nothing but to wait till 2009 elections. Danam Nagender also been
known along with Mukesh Goud for their stand on union territory status for Hyderabad
City in the wake of demands for the formation of Separate Telangana.
He is not consistent
on this issue as well after threats from the supporters of Telangana statehood.
Presently, he is President of the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee and held
Ministry of Labour
